San Francisco Pride Parade 2008
The San Francisco Pride Parade in 2008 was held on the heels of the first, legal same-sex marriages at San Francisco City Hall and around California. As such, the parade was simultaneously celebratory and sentimental -- marking the culmination of a long civil rights struggle in marriage equality.
This photo gallery represents a cross section of the almost three-hour parade along Market Street. A wedding theme permeated the parade, well beyond the bounds of this gallery. Local politicians who've fought on the side of same-sex marriages rights were part of the procession as were thousands upon thousands of participants and spectators. Early reports suggest this was a landmark year in terms of parade attendance -- for good reason.
